One Expedition Phinisi. Countless Uncharted Horizons. Private Charter Exploration Throughout the Indonesian Archipelago
EXPLORE THE DETAILS
Across the vast Indonesian archipelago, Uncharted Cruises charts a different course. Our private charter expeditions aboard a traditional phinisi are shaped by exploration, immersion, and the quiet reward of reaching places few ever do.
We sail into remote waters, untouched islands, and culturally rich coastlines where stories are shared, not staged. Every journey is crafted around experience rather than itinerary — guided by nature, expertise, and the spirit of discovery that defines Uncharted.
This is Indonesia, experienced deeply. This is where exploration begins.
Uncharted Cruises is dedicated to exploring the Indonesian archipelago through private expedition journeys that place experience, immersion, and intent at the center of every voyage. We sail to remote regions, connect with coastal cultures, and move through Indonesia with respect for nature, people, and place.
Our roots lie in exploration — above and below the surface. From expert-led diving expeditions to quiet passages between seldom-visited islands, each journey reflects a deep understanding of Indonesia’s waters and traditions. Conservation is not a slogan here; it is embedded in how we travel, how we interact, and how we choose where — and where not — to go.
The Uncharted Cruises crew is a team of experienced professionals united by a shared respect for the sea and a long-standing connection to Indonesia. Safety, seamanship, and local knowledge guide every decision, ensuring each expedition is as considered as it is unforgettable.
Ta’Talasa, launched in 2025, is a two-mast expedition phinisi, built by hand on a sandy beach in South Sulawesi over the course of 18 months. Constructed in the traditional Bugis style, she carries generations of maritime knowledge into modern exploration across the Indonesian archipelago.
Designed for long passages and remote access, Ta’Talasa combines traditional craftsmanship with modern navigation, safety systems, and onboard technology. From engine room to bridge, every system supports safe, considered expedition travel — allowing us to explore responsibly, reach seldom-visited regions, and spend meaningful time where others pass quickly.
Life aboard is practical, comfortable, and focused on the journey. With indoor and outdoor dining areas, a dedicated dive deck, relaxed communal spaces, and accommodation for up to eight guests, Ta’Talasa is a vessel built to support exploration — not distract from it.
Uncharted Cruises dives beyond familiar sites, navigating toward remote reefs and rarely explored waters across the Indonesian archipelago. Each expedition is guided by experience and shaped by conditions, allowing discovery to unfold naturally — dive by dive.
This is exploration-driven diving: deliberate, respectful, and grounded in deep local knowledge.
Slip beneath the surface and let the rhythm of the sea take over. Drifting above reefs and lagoons, snorkelling with Uncharted Cruises is about slowing down, observing quietly, and reconnecting with the natural flow of the water.
A simple way to experience Indonesia’s marine life — unhurried and fully present.
Freediving aboard Ta’Talasa strips the experience back to breath, movement, and water. It offers a quieter way to enter the sea — whether over reef edges, in calm bays, or along clear coastal walls where the underwater world feels close enough to touch.
This is freediving as presence: simple, immersive, and shaped by the rhythm of the ocean.
Move quietly along coastlines and into sheltered coves, guided only by paddle and tide. Kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding offer an intimate way to explore Indonesia’s shores, where still water, coastal breezes, and distant sounds shape the moment.
A slower form of exploration — close to the surface, close to the land.
Step ashore and experience Indonesia beyond the coastline. Cultural tours offer moments of connection with places shaped by history, tradition, and daily life — from ancient sites to small communities where stories are shared quietly, not performed.
These encounters add depth to the journey, grounding exploration in human connection and perspective.
Bird watching aboard Ta’Talasa unfolds at the pace of nature. In remote regions of Indonesia, early mornings and quiet shorelines offer moments to observe rare and endemic species within untouched landscapes.
An experience rooted in patience, stillness, and a deeper awareness of place.
Exploring remote regions carries responsibility. At Uncharted Cruises, how we travel matters as much as where we go. Every expedition is shaped to respect local ecosystems, cultures, and communities — moving thoughtfully, engaging respectfully, and leaving as little trace as possible.
Responsibility here is not a program or a promise. It is simply part of how we operate in uncharted places.
We had a cruise on Thalassa with a group of experienced divers and instructors, all well-versed in the dive sites of the Indonesian Archipelago. But this wasn’t your usual cruise. Thanks to the deep local knowledge and adventurous spirit of the dive and deck teams, our goal was clear: exploration, to venture into rarely visited areas between Sulawesi and Flores and seek out uncharted dive sites. And Thalassa delivered beyond expectations. From reading nautical charts with precision, climbing th...
We were a group of 7 on the first Uncharted Crossing trip from Bira, South Sulawesi to Labuan Bajo, Komodo. As a Cruise Director myself on a luxury cruise, I have to say the service was top-notch — especially the attention to detail from the Stewardess, who were quick and thoughtful with every request. The Cruise Director onboard worked closely with the Captain and the rest of the crew to ensure we reached each destination on time, and the itinerary planning was spot-on. The boat itself was exc...
TRIP OF A LIFETIME!! It's hard to know where to start with my praise 😅 The boat itself (Thalassa 42) was magnificent and I love the pirate vibes with the gorgeous black sails. The attention to detail from the woodwork to the facilities was next level. Everything was so beautifully polished, I ran my hands over the wooden surfaces everywhere I went. There's a natural flow on the boat between the various living spaces - so you very rarely bump into people in passageways (which makes it feel even ...
I did a trip with Uncharted Cruises, on their boat Thalassa 42, in May 2025. We left from Bira, South Sulawesi and went all the way down to Komodo National Park, and it was probably the best holidays of my life, just incredible, wish I could do this non stop. First of all their boat is incredible, I’m 1.80m and usually on boats I have to be careful about bumping my head, but not on this boat, not a single place where I need to be careful, even in the cabins, which are massive by the way. Big dou...
We went on a 6 nights trip with Uncharted in March. Mind blown! Would recommend it for those looking for that little bit more in their liveaboard. The team tailored the trip and gave helpful feedback. The boat crew were really friendly (and good musicians!) and most importantly the food was the best I’ve ever had on a liveaborad. The boat is stunning, build with comfort and safety in mind. The owners seem to have a real sense of tradition & spared no expense on creating a beautiful feel and ...
Wow. What an experience. I have done many dive livaboard trips over the years, but this one was unlike any other. Firstly, Thalassa is more than a well designed functional dive boat. It is a work of art and so beautiful. When the black sails are out it is breathtaking. Sailing into a beautiful sunset with strings of uninhabited islands in all directions sitting on a comfy chair the top deck with a cold beer after a great days diving will live long in my memory. The beauty of the boat is a perfec...
