A Vessel rooted in discovery

Ta’Talasa is a traditional Indonesian phinisi, built by hand in South Sulawesi and shaped by the Bugis — a people whose lives and histories have long been defined by the sea. As a private expedition yacht charter in Indonesia, she carries forward a way of traveling that values distance, adaptability, and respect for the ocean.

For centuries, Bugis sailors navigated the archipelago and beyond, forming a maritime culture grounded in movement and discovery. Ta’Talasa emerged from this lineage, crafted in the Bugis heartland by skilled hands that understand not only how to build a vessel, but how a vessel must behave at sea.

Her name holds layered meaning. In Konjo, talas speaks of life that is scattered and found everywhere, echoing the dispersed nature of islands and journeys across water. It also recalls Thalassa, the ancient sea born of chaos, reminding us that exploration is shaped as much by uncertainty as by intention.

Aboard Ta’Talasa, life is shared and purposeful. With space for up to eight guests in three cabins, days move between open decks, communal meals, and time spent immersed in the environment. Modern systems and equipment operate quietly in the background, supporting safe passage and exploratory diving — always in service of the journey, never the other way around.

Bugis Cabin

The Bugis Cabin takes its name from the Bugis people of South Sulawesi, whose seafaring heritage and boatbuilding tradition have shaped life across the Indonesian archipelago for centuries. Their maritime skill still lives on in the phinisi tradition — and in the hands that built Ta’Talasa herself.

At 25 sqm, this is a spacious retreat designed for longer passages and shared journeys. It features a king-size bed, a private ensuite bathroom, and air-conditioning. A separate single bed allows the cabin to comfortably accommodate an additional adult or child when required.

Six portholes bring in natural light and fresh air at anchor, creating a bright, open atmosphere that keeps you connected to the sea even while at rest.

Responsible by Design

Ta’Talasa is operated with a focus on reducing impact while travelling through remote regions of the Indonesian archipelago. Systems and practices on board are chosen to support long-range expedition travel while limiting unnecessary noise, waste, and disturbance.

A hybrid solar and battery system allows generators to remain off for much of the time, enabling quiet nights at anchor and reducing fuel use. Generators are used selectively — primarily to top up batteries or operate essential equipment such as dive compressors and Nitrox systems. Waste management practices on board follow a leave-no-trace approach wherever possible.

Beyond the vessel itself, Uncharted Cruises works with local suppliers, guides, and communities, supporting regional economies and respecting cultural and environmental contexts. Responsibility here is practical and ongoing — reflected in daily decisions, not slogans.
