Where culture runs as deep as the channels between the islands.

Some routes are defined by famous names. This one is defined by what lies between them. East Flores to Alor is a passage through volcanic coastlines, narrow straits, and sea-bound communities. The journey never belongs to the water alone. Aboard Ta’Talasa, this is a region approached slowly. Not as a chain of stops, but as a connected stretch of remote Indonesia where culture, current, and distance shape the experience in equal measure.

East Flores

East Flores is where the voyage begins to loosen from the familiar. Harbours, ridgelines, and weathered coastal settlements set the tone for what lies ahead. A private charter expedition through East Flores is not about arrival, but about entering a part of Indonesia where the sea still feels central to everything — movement, trade, belief, and daily life.

Lembata, Lamalera & Lewoleba

Further east, the route gains weight. Lewoleba is a threshold, and Lamalera gives the coastline a gravity that stays with you. This is one of those rare places where the human story runs as deep as the water itself — where the voyage ashore is not separate from the expedition, but part of its meaning.

Pantar & Alor

By the time the passage reaches Pantar and Alor, the sea takes hold completely. Water moves harder here. Reefs sharpen. Channels tighten. Diving becomes more dynamic, more elemental, and more dependent on reading conditions well. An Alor route rewards those drawn to water in motion, to remote diving, and to the feeling that the further east you go, the more the journey belongs to the sea.

This is not a standard island cruise. It is a quieter, deeper kind of expedition — one that asks for time, rewards curiosity, and stays with you long after land falls behind.

01
WHEN TO GO

This route is best approached when the sea allows the islands to open to one another. In the drier months, typically from March to October, conditions tend to be more favourable for longer passages through East Flores, Lembata, Pantar, and Alor, making the journey feel more fluid and expansive.

Even so, timing here is never only seasonal. Wind, swell, and current all shape how the expedition unfolds. The further east the route reaches, the more the voyage depends on reading those conditions well — and allowing the journey to move with them.

02
DIVING & WATER CONDITIONS

Water and diving conditions between East Flores and Alor are shaped by movement. Narrow straits, tidal exchanges, and volcanic seabeds create a region where the sea is rarely still for long — and where that constant motion brings exceptional marine life.

Water temperatures generally range between 24°C and 28°C, while visibility is often excellent, regularly reaching 20 to 30 metres or more. Currents range from moderate to very strong, especially around the new and full moon, making careful dive planning, navigation, and water sports decisions an essential part of the journey.

03
DIVING LEVEL

This route is best enjoyed by intermediate to advanced divers, particularly those comfortable in moving water and changing conditions. While some sites are more forgiving, others ask more — and that is part of what makes diving here so rewarding when approached with the right experience.
