Pioneers Wanted for Routes Still Being Written
UNCHARTED EXPEDITIONS
Rare Expedition Cruises.
Limited Departures.
Some routes only come alive for a moment. A narrow season opens, the sea allows a crossing, a remote reef becomes reachable, or a route into lesser-known water finally begins to make sense. These are the moments our Indonesia diving expeditions are built for.
Opened by cabin space for individual adventurers or groups, these departures are limited to 6 guests aboard Ta’Talasa. These are diving-first journeys into remote Indonesia — shaped by blue water, exploratory sites, rarely visited islands, and the pull of places still lightly marked on the map. The days may lead from reefs and walls to volcanic shores, village encounters, cultural depth, and long passages where the journey itself becomes part of the reward.
This is Uncharted at its most direct — rare windows of adventure for those who want more than a destination, and are willing to follow the route further.
Next departure: 15 June 2026 – 6 spots remaining
For Explorers & Pioneers
These voyages sit at the outer edge of what we do.
They come together not simply because a place is beautiful, but because, for a short time, the conditions align: a sea opens, a crossing becomes viable, a remote coastline begins to call, or a route into lesser-known water finally feels possible.
This is where Uncharted moves closest to its own core — toward islands, reefs, pinnacles, walls, and passages that remain lightly visited, seasonally accessible, or only partly understood.
Rare Windows, Not Routine Departures.
Each expedition depends on a specific moment in the year. When weather, sea state, and access align well enough to make the journey possible in the way it deserves.
Long Routes, Open Water.
Many of these voyages involve blue-water crossings, more exposed passages, and a rhythm shaped by movement between remote regions rather than by one familiar destination.
Places Never Reached (Long Enough).
Some expeditions push into entirely new territory. Others return to places we have passed through before, but with the time and intent to explore them more deeply and immerse ourselves more fully.
Curated for Pioneers.
With only 6 guests on board and an application-based process, each departure remains small, considered, and closely matched to the nature of the route itself.
The Core of Uncharted.
These are the voyages that carry the strongest expedition character: rarer, further, less predictable, and all the more compelling because of it.
Discover all expeditions
Seafarer Heritage, Current & Dragons
From Bira’s wooden shipyards, Ta’Talasa sails south into Selayar and the remote atolls of Takabonerate before turning toward Banta and Komodo’s wilder waters. Ten days of seafaring heritage, open horizons, quiet reefs, rising currents, and dragon country — a true Uncharted passage from craftsmanship to current.
Komodo Current Pirates
A diving-first circumnavigation of Komodo National Park, following the current through manta water, exposed reefs, wild ridgelines, and dragon country. This is Komodo at full force — Central, North, West, and South — shaped by tide, timing, and the restless energy that makes these waters impossible to tame.
The Lesser Sunda Passage
From Labuan Bajo, Ta’Talasa sails east along the volcanic spine of the Lesser Sundas — through Flores, East Flores, Lembata, Pantar, and finally Alor. Expect remote reefs, current-shaped diving, sea-bound villages, cultural depth, and the feeling of travelling further into Indonesia with every mile.
The Banda Sea Ring of Fire
A 13-day Alor to Ambon diving expedition across the Banda Sea — through remote volcanic islands, rarely visited reefs, pelagic waters, frontier dive sites, and the historic Spice Islands of Run, Ai, and Banda Neira.
The Coral Triangle Traverse
A 12-day Ambon to Raja Ampat diving expedition across the Banda Sea — through Suanggi, Banda Neira, Pulau Koon, Misool, and Central Raja Ampat. Expect volcanic islands, spice-route history, long crossings, remote reefs, pelagic water, and some of the richest biodiversity in the Coral Triangle.
Be Part of the Expedition
These are Indonesia diving expeditions before anything else. The days are built around remote reefs, walls, pinnacles, current lines, and sites that may still sit outside the usual dive map.
Some dives begin with a known promise. Others begin with a sounder reading, local knowledge, and the shared question that defines Uncharted: what might be down there?
On these journeys, guests are brought closer to the expedition process. Conditions, currents, weather, routes, scouting ideas, and dive windows are discussed openly with the expedition leaders.
You are not simply following a fixed program. You are part of the daily rhythm of decision-making that shapes where we go, when we dive, and how the route unfolds.
Some of the most exciting moments happen before a site has a name. A reef edge appears on the chart. A pinnacle rises on the sounder. A wall looks promising from the shape of the coastline.
When conditions allow, we scout together — carefully, respectfully, and with the understanding that discovery is rarely polished. Sometimes it is slow. Sometimes it is magic.
Many expeditions are defined by movement: open-water crossings, long horizons, and passages between islands that few routes connect.
This is where an Indonesia liveaboard expedition feels most alive — not as a transfer between places, but as part of the journey itself. Blue water, distance, and uncertainty become part of the story.
The expedition does not end when the tanks are rinsed. Shore landings, village visits, volcanic slopes, historic sites, markets, beaches, and quiet island walks add another layer to the route.
These moments are not filler between dives. They are how the expedition becomes rooted in place.
Remote Indonesia is not only reef. It is birds, reptiles, forest edges, pelagic life, macro worlds, mangroves, and species found only in narrow corners of the archipelago.
From endemic birds and rare reptiles to reef life still poorly understood, every expedition follows the full living landscape — above and below the surface.
A true expedition does not run on autopilot. Weather shifts. Currents change. Wildlife appears on its own terms. A promising reef may call us one way, a better window another.
Plans matter, but flexibility matters more. These are expert-guided expeditions built around judgment, curiosity, and the willingness to let the route become what it should be.
Be Part of the Expedition
For Those Who Belong at the Edge of the Known.
These journeys are not designed for passive travel.
They are diving expeditions in Indonesia built for those who want to enter the water first, cross further, and understand a place from more than one angle — reef, shoreline, village, weather, and sea.
They are for fellow explorers who are willing to trade predictability for discovery, and comfort-first travel for something rarer: a small-group expedition into places that still ask to be earned.
- Divers seeking remote diving in Indonesia, beyond the repeated routes.
- Explorers drawn to reefs, islands, and passages that still feel unfinished.
- Travellers comfortable with blue water, crossings, and the reality of remote operations.
- Nature-focused guests who value raw landscapes, wildlife, and silence over polish.
- People curious about culture, land, and sea as one connected journey.
- Individuals who want to be part of something limited, purposeful, and genuinely Uncharted.
What our guests say about us
This was the best liveaboard I’ve ever experienced. Stepping onto the boat felt like entering a luxurious world of excitement, adventure, relaxation and fun. Rob and Patrick care deeply about every detail, and it shows in the boat, the crew and the diving. The boat itself is astonishing — powered mainly by solar, with spacious cabins and ensuite bathrooms that feel more like a 5‑star hotel than a dive boat. Rob and Patrick planned every dive with care, provided excellent equipment, and offered t...
What an unforgettable holiday in Raja Ampat with Uncharted Cruises! 10 days of diving with so many surprises provided by the lovely crew of this beautiful boat. The diving and scenery in Raja Ampat is unique but the crew, boat, food and experience provided by Uncharted was off the scale. We all came away thinking it was exceptional value for money. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very special. The attention to detail and thought that had gone into our adventure was amazing....
Hands down one of the best liveaboard experiences I’ve ever had! 🌊🤿 The crew were exceptional—warm, professional, and always going above and beyond to make sure everyone was happy and comfortable. Safety was clearly a top priority at all times, with thorough briefings, well-maintained equipment ( x deep wings and apex regulators ) , and a crew that was attentive both above and below the water. « Ta’Talasa» itself is incredibly comfortable, with cozy cabins and plenty of space to relax between di...
Thalassa is a very nice Phinisi Indonesian boat built in a pirate version. Every day, fantastic Indonesian food is cooked with lots of love. The crew is lovely and helps you with everything. The land tours and local people in the villages between the diving give you a real Indonesia cultere trip! The diving is stunning, there's a big variety of live, corals and landscapes. I did the Banda crossing, which included hammerheads grey and silvertip sharks at different dive sites. Healthy coral reefs...
We had a cruise on Thalassa with a group of experienced divers and instructors, all well-versed in the dive sites of the Indonesian Archipelago. But this wasn’t your usual cruise. Thanks to the deep local knowledge and adventurous spirit of the dive and deck teams, our goal was clear: exploration, to venture into rarely visited areas between Sulawesi and Flores and seek out uncharted dive sites. And Thalassa delivered beyond expectations. From reading nautical charts with precision, climbing th...
We were a group of 7 on the first Uncharted Crossing trip from Bira, South Sulawesi to Labuan Bajo, Komodo. As a Cruise Director myself on a luxury cruise, I have to say the service was top-notch — especially the attention to detail from the Stewardess, who were quick and thoughtful with every request. The Cruise Director onboard worked closely with the Captain and the rest of the crew to ensure we reached each destination on time, and the itinerary planning was spot-on. The boat itself was exc...
TRIP OF A LIFETIME!! It's hard to know where to start with my praise 😅 The boat itself (Thalassa 42) was magnificent and I love the pirate vibes with the gorgeous black sails. The attention to detail from the woodwork to the facilities was next level. Everything was so beautifully polished, I ran my hands over the wooden surfaces everywhere I went. There's a natural flow on the boat between the various living spaces - so you very rarely bump into people in passageways (which makes it feel even ...
I did a trip with Uncharted Cruises, on their boat Thalassa 42, in May 2025. We left from Bira, South Sulawesi and went all the way down to Komodo National Park, and it was probably the best holidays of my life, just incredible, wish I could do this non stop. First of all their boat is incredible, I’m 1.80m and usually on boats I have to be careful about bumping my head, but not on this boat, not a single place where I need to be careful, even in the cabins, which are massive by the way. Big dou...
We went on a 6 nights trip with Uncharted in March. Mind blown! Would recommend it for those looking for that little bit more in their liveaboard. The team tailored the trip and gave helpful feedback. The boat crew were really friendly (and good musicians!) and most importantly the food was the best I’ve ever had on a liveaborad. The boat is stunning, build with comfort and safety in mind. The owners seem to have a real sense of tradition & spared no expense on creating a beautiful feel and ...
Wow. What an experience. I have done many dive livaboard trips over the years, but this one was unlike any other. Firstly, Thalassa is more than a well designed functional dive boat. It is a work of art and so beautiful. When the black sails are out it is breathtaking. Sailing into a beautiful sunset with strings of uninhabited islands in all directions sitting on a comfy chair the top deck with a cold beer after a great days diving will live long in my memory. The beauty of the boat is a perfec...
